If I am on vacation and no lights have been used for 2 weeks, my energy consumption is reduced by roughly 60%, since I consume a lot of energy with all my electronics and house lighting. And it seems what my energy company appreciates the most isn't profit but my conserving of energy.<br>Those who oppose this idea are simply Earth haters and prefer self-indulgence by leaving little energy resources for their future generations, and thy also lack informed, intelligent, nature appreciating minds.

Embrace the dark side

It's only an hour...but I suppose every little bit helps.

Embrace the dark side

Dear Jason, you are in error. At noon you could plan outdoor activities and at midnight most people are going to sleep or sleeping so it would be easy to get up and cut the power. I believe this is a wonderful idea though and if I can talk my fiance' and step-daughter into shuting off everything but maybe one small light in the babies room maybe we could play hide in seek in the daark or night tag inside the house. It is there right to do so.It is also there responsibility to band together as an american citizen and do the right thing. We must all work together to at least try. What is wrong with that?You that do not want to participate are going to help ruin this country and all that it once stood for. If you do not know what I am talking about then do us all a favor and get out your history books.I guess the next thing you will want to do is punch a hole in your gas tank so you can keep filling it up.When you say you will turn your lights on at 8 till 9 make sure you go empty your fuel you have for your lawn mower and your vehicle if you can drive. And also turn on your heater and air conditioner and all your appliances and dont forget to turn your water hoses on and all your indoor plumbing to. Hopefully I can rack up a few hundred extra KW hours to make up for these hippy global warming freaks brainwashing ways. I might just idle my two SUV's in my driveway just to add some extra carbon footprint as well. Plus, I will make sure my gas generators are running non-stop regardless of any power outages. Congrats you freaks - you just tossed more carbon into the air with this stupid stunt.

Embrace the dark side

How about just turn off the lights when you are not using them as a daily habit. &nbsp;That's much more effective than a one hour feelgood effort. &nbsp;This stunt is ineffective green propaganda more than anything else, and clearly not worthy of 'headline news'. &nbsp;

Embrace the dark side

Great idea... but lets take it one step further, no air condition, no furnace, in other words a complete shutdown. I like that lots of large companies such as Google are jumping on the bandwagon. It's a great way to spread the word. I'd be curious to know how much energy this really saves. I think the previous comment, &quot;yeah, and let's just not buy gas for a day too.&quot; is a good one. That might be a little more productive use of our boycotting. Puts a little sting in the oil manufacturer's sides. Think about if millions of people world wide just didn't drive anywhere for one day, now that's a little more practical. Still, EarthHour gets people interested and maybe makes one think twice about filling up their 10 mpg Ford F350.
