Taken as its true meaning, it indicates an unexpected and unusual sight(ing); taken as most people would understand it, he is saying that people are seeing 'ghosts'. Thank you for a very reasonable, rational article. Unfortunately, not all of us have at the ready ultra high speed films/cameras/video recording equipment nor infrared sensors, calorimeters, dopplers, sonars, and various radar modalities. As well, when sighting an unusual object, the sheer surprise of the unexpected event blunts a reflexive recording response. Such was the case for my wife and me(sane, sober, and healthy retired physicians) on another camping/climbing trip to Big Bend National Park last November 4th. While still resting supine in our sleeping bags off Old Ore Road just north of the Rio Bravo del Norte at 4:34 a.m. and gazing at the moonless, star filled sky anticipating an early morning coffee before hitting the trail, an enormous, darkly defined, totally silent object that progressively blotted out the constellations as it swiftly traversed 10 degrees poleward off the zenith from 245 degrees (sw) to 45 degrees (ne). The fore/aft termini of this object each displayed a painfully bright white light; no vibrations, auditory perceptions, no electrostatic sensations, no shock wave. Its constant velocity was so great that it allowed no time whatsoever to extract our high speed cameras from our backpacks. Also, unfortunately, depth of field was also compromised because of near total darkness save for background starlight making an a reasonably accurate estimation of angular velocity a moot exercise. Wish as we might, there were no repeat performances on Emery Peak, Lost Mine Trail, Chinati Peak, nor at Candelaria, Marfa, and Casa Piedra. Nevertheless, if you might enjoy a starry, starry night (void of any hint of light pollution) that resembles powdered sugar cast upon a indigo-black celestial sphere, Big Bend serves as your point of departure.

I'm disappointed that of all the articles on this incident so far, no journalist has seen fit to address the question of whether a mirage reflecting artificial lights -- such as vehicles, traffic lights or street lamps -- could provide a scientific explanation for what witnesses saw. Look at how long humans witnessed Transient Luminous Events (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper-atmospheric_lightning) before they were recognized as natural, real phenomena that could be scientifically documented. Just because a phenomenon is rare and difficult to photograph does not automatically make it the product of extraterrestrials nor human hallucinations.

As a child I lived on Patrick Air Force Base Florida where numerous such sightings occured. To my view, I was convinced that what I saw was indeed a UFO, only to be surprised when I found out that the object was nothing more than an Air Force experiment. My dad, a captain at the time, commented that tight security was necassary to hide the ongoing work to keep the "commies" in the dark. Some of the experiments were quite bizzar and defied comparison to the known aircraft of the day. To this day, there are still many such sightings going on at the base.

Photos are near worthless, video is what matters. Video provides speed and hopefully landmarks. Multiple cameras would be better for the serious investigator. I think a lot of people are to the point where it "has" to be military since the next alternative throws their old belief systems into chaos. Of course they forget that the UFOs have been around longer than Area 51 and flew over DC in 1952 on multiple nights.
The exoplanet research has convinced me that the odds are getting better every year for the aliens to exist. And given that this planet has already seen one major life form in the dinosaurs, it wouldn't suprise me that another planet 50 million years ago developed their own intelligent species that decided to travel the stars before we even existed. People just don't get that the universe and life have been around an incredibly long time--humans are new to the scene.

I would imagine most people who see an unidentified flying object, of such startling supprise, would not be so cool headed as to do much detective work concerning the matter. However with todays technology one could get a gps location and sky position after the fact. If the sighting is of real puzzling magnitude the excitement of the moment would have to cause it's own confusions.
I live in a high high altitude air traffic location. The night or daytime sky is almost not without something flying over at all times. I actualy pay little attention to the movements in the sky as a result. We even get low flying craft often enough to just pass it all off as something we are used to hearing or seeing.
However if an object over a mile in length were to hover over us I think that would get lots of attention and the "normal" air traffic we see could not cover the explanation. Like most people, I have always wondered why don't these "visitors" just communicate and get it over with. If they are in fact visitors at all. No one trusts anything our government says anymore about any aubject. If I were to guess and believe that these objects are from another "existance" somewhere. I would accept the idea they are from another dimention able to travel through the worm holes in the fabric of time. Yet even that idea doesn't explain why they don't just stop and say hello.
I would say to everyone to keep looking up, but sometimes it is better to keep an eye and an ear to the ground.

What is the big deal? UFO sightings are more common than seeing the a an Air Force fighter jet in the sky. All you have to do is hang around veteran pilots and have them tell you stories---in any country of the world. Even in Mexico where I live there is a large UFO org that has lots of great pictures of UFO's like orgs in other countries. We are blind and ignorant as humans not to realize the significance of other "beings" in our universe after all the physical evidence we have of our own history dating back to time of the Egyptians.

In the summertime and on warmer winter mornings (which are few and far between) I sit in my back yard and nearly every morning observe what I believe to be satilites passing by. One morning I obseved three objects moving in a sort of trianglular formation from west to east. By the time they were out of view they had changed formation to where the last object was even with the lead object. I know satilites don't fly in groups!

No I've never seen a UFO, so I can't judge for myself, but I would say that extraterrestrials are an equal possibility to other explinations for a portion of reported sightings. Especially when they involve dozens of witnesses or expert witnesses.

I remember attending a "flying saucer convention" at 29 Palms, California way back in spring 1960. There were black-and-white photos of a "flying saucer casting a shadow on the moon". The technical problems of this assertion were: (1) if the flying saucer was close to the earth (and therefore a large image, how could it cast a shadow on the moon?; and (2) if the flying saucer was, indeed, casting a shadow on the moon, it must have had a length equal to about one-fourth the diameter of the moon. Conclusion: be wary of photographs of flying saucers.

It could be a new type of secret military aircraft or maybe vistors from beyond Earth. It appears that this scenario was to test a new camouflage technique. When the UFO decended to about 1,000 ft. above ground the fireball cloud effect burned off thus revealing the true object in its entirety. Then the next step was to get out of dodge. Interesting how other aircraft were flying close to it. For what purpose? A guide?Escort? Or simple curiosity? Rest assure this won't be the last incident with an encounter of a UFO. When a clear/detailed photograph or video footage can be shown to the public this incident may just die quietly. Until then keep a camera or video camcorder close by and charged up. You just never know when that opportunity will come. The truth is out there.

I, being a previous viewer of what I then, and still today, consider a UFO, believe that others should control themselves and avoid making a media blitz aout of a possible sighting. Yes, there are likely beings from a far away solar system who are regularly visiting our earth. The are probably very concerned about the way we are treating our planet. The most concentrated amount of sightings occurred after the first atomic bomb was exploded. We are certainly being watched. All that I ask is that when you DO think that you have seen a UFO, then please refrain from acting like a school kid in a candy store. There are those of us who consider possible visitations from others "out there" as being rather common place and fact. Thank you. By the way, I am a registered member of the National UFO Reporting Site. I did not then, nor am I know, seeking media attention.

My wife and I had a similar sighting in McClusky ND on 07/10/03 I reported it to MUFON and I was the Sheriff at the time.What we saw was real. Do the skeptics really want 'proof'? Then will they ask NASA, which speaks for the US Government in this matter, a simple open question?

"Would you welcome an open and public 'confirmation of presence' from the ETs who are visiting our world--an undeniable appearance, or a radio or optical message which could be received by the news media and people of the United States?"

If the question and the answer are reported by the news media, then they will be heard by any ETs who are carefully monitoring our civilization.

A "Yes" from NASA would say to the American people, and the ETs, that the government is finally ready to let the people know the truth about the ET presence.

A "No" from NASA, or some evasive dismissal of the question, would say to the American people, and the ETs, that the government--to the extent that it can control the situation--is not ready to let the people know the truth about the ET presence.

Again and again, for decades, the government and the people of the United States have been given the opportunity to acknowledge the ET presence, and lead humankind into a new era. But it may simply be too frightening for the US, and some other nation will take the first step. Or the ETs may eventually provide an undeniable demonstration of their presence--regardless of the wishes of the US Government--to all the peoples of the Earth.

If the skeptics cannot even ask NASA a simple question, then it will be clear that they do not want 'proof', and that their purpose is to prevent the American people from knowing the truth about the ET presence.

Is it possible the ETs have something important to tell us, perhaps about the nature of life and technology, and the experiences of other evolving technological civilizations? I believe in a superior race outside our own realm, higher powers. Imagine for a few moments the scientific successes in the past stages of 25 years, 50 years, 100 years, unbelievable, and then consider the mindset of 'those people' back then,...if you had were to speak of contemporary scientific technology they would consider you,...what, crazy?! So, lights traveling at great speeds, changing colors, floating in the skys, at night and during the day is nothing new. And in a passage from ancient writings of the Hebrew, translated into a book called the bible, there is a vision of a man who was taken somwhere and there he seen the son of man, Jesus and a round tabel with other man like beings. It's there and I think that should be taken into consideration when UFO seekers question what they might be seeing is from OUT there or HERE. AND one question always baffles me,...Is there life out there? If we are a bible, God believing country, wouldn't that answer that question, there are no limits to Gods' power. Two things. Of course he meant 'meteor', he just mispoke. Friedman gently corrected him.

Worse: he implied that 'intelligence' was a factor in avoiding misinterpretation of visual stimuli. This is a widespread delusion -- people who DO misinterpret things (as the vast majority of UFO witnesses are doing) get really torqued when somebody offers a prosaic explanation -- 'Are you saying I'm SToooPID?!?!?' is the standard response (Lucius Farish, despite his profound familiarity with the UFO literature, made exactly this gambit when I [correctly] identified a favorite personal UFO sighting of his with the Echo balloon). But as Hendry/Hynek results indicate, it is intelligent people who are more likely to 'cue up' earlier perceptual memories to 'fill in the gaps' and 'leap to conclusions' about baffling and ambiguous perceptions. It's why adults are easily fooled by deliberate prestidigitation, while children and lower IQ watchers are not -- the latter witnesses' minds are actually truer to the raw perceptions. It's why pilots make such lousy aviation accident witnesses, according to the NTSB investigation techniques -- they are too eager to over-interpret the meaning of what they are seeing, rather than noting and preserving RAW perceptions. Ditto pilots as UFO witnesses [pace Hynek].

Being misled by a visual apparition is NOT an insult to a witness's intelligence. More often than not, it is a tribute to it -- while reflecting poorly on that person's EXPERIENCE as a witness. And reflecting poorly on foolish people who think SMART people are more credible as UFO witnesses.

Life we would consider 'intelligent' is certainly as probable. Do these sitings have any crediblity? No. I find it far more likely a huge portion of sitings deal with atmospheric phenemona, and the rest military exercises. Will the government deny those? You bet. They don't want every country on Earth to know what they do at night out west.

So as soon as the 'aliens' stop flashing little lights across the sky and actually send a real message, or land on the White House lawn, we'll have something a little more solid to go by.

I am 64 years old and I have never seen a ghost, a Big Foot, or a UFO however that doesn't mean that they don't exist. I spent several years in California and most of my life in tornado alley and I have never felt an earthquake or seen a tornado either but I know they exist so I keep an open mind. Science and its insistence on hard evidence is a good tool for learning but it should not be the end-all. If it was, all scientists by definition would be Atheists and many do profess a religious belief of one kind or another. When we are ready, all things will be known to us but not before!

As a former Deputy Sheriff in New York State during the 60's, I saw two events that still put goose bumps on my skin. Swamp,Approx 40'diameter, hovering, real shiny metal, no sound, almost dusk, I walked 100'+ to within 25'-. It started UP, slow rotation, I drew my service revolver .357 Magnum Colt Python. THOUGHT, if this is ALIEN, they have weapons better than my revolver, so I holstered it. The revolving stopped,it lowered back down to less than 3' off the ground above the swamp water.I am standing in water,shaking in my soaked boots, it is cold, but I was scared to death. Bottom was basically flat with slight upturn near edges. Ten minutes passed, then from center of the ?????????, a round (4' to 5') post/compartment lowered down to the surface of the water. It did not touch water, I could not see the opposite side of the "chamber" but I sure watched real hard. Heard slight sounds of movement/metal to metal/humming/but saw nothing else. Then the (compartment) raised back up to the base of the object and went inside leaving a totally flat bottom with the bottom of the compartment now flush with the bottom of the object.

I swore outloud (don't know why)I was only 10/12 feet away from outer edge of ring. My back was hurting very badly,I looked around for a place to sit but one that I could react to events very quickly. No such luck, I found a small tree stump 2' high and slowly sat down. All of a sudden, the object went up and down three times about 1 foot each time. I heard more sounds, one of them could have been my heart beating wildly. I decided that darkness was approaching quickly and I did not want to be there in the dark. I stood up and was about to turn around and go back the way I had come behind the Morman Religious site known as HILL CUMORAH. The Mormans put on a beautiful religious theatric presentation every year Ausgust?. Thousands, visit the Shrine. The Statue is of the Angel Marconi (?). I am not Morman, do not know the exact details. It is located South of Palmyra, New York, Ontario County, New York State.
Before I could start walking more than five feet back up the hill towards my car and the road, the object began to rise up slowly, no turning, no revolving, and then after reaching 15' or 16' feet, it moved directly away from the direction I was going, Probably Westerly, I was not paying attention to directions.

As it went it was basically quiet, but it did bump against any and all branches that were exceeding the height that it was at, including some rather big ones. They broke off with ease and then the object stopped and then rose directly upwards until it cleared the trees and bushes it had been in. Then, it headed in the same direction that it had been going in at the lower elevation and I watched it for about four minutes as it floated evenly down the valley, it was in and gradually rose on an even scale and went out of sight. I did not report it, I was there for another reason, and did not want to jeopordize the outcome of that surveilance. Later when I told a couple of other Deputies, they reacted just as I expected.

what has been described in the texas sighting is not too much unlike what i myself had seen some years ago. the difference between the two is size. what i first thought was a hang glider turned out to be nothing of the sort. no pilot for one thing, no sound, no means of propulsion. it moved at a walking pace or slower. straight across level movement. i stood across the street where i was just moving into when i had this sighting. it was right in front of me just above the trees, had i been in the treetop i couldve reached out and touched it. this craft whatever it was, was blacker than jet black, no seams visable. it had a boomerang type shape, almost organic. its "wingspan" was approx. 70-80 ft. the leading edge had some sort of array of lights but they were not incondesant or flouresant but more like a glow like phosphorous or glow in the dark type light. all this occured in broad daylight as well between 4 and 430pm for about a minute or two. it moved from my right to left and i was facing nnw at the time, so it moved east to west. it eventually dissapeared beyond the tree line and was never seen again. i describe my feeeling as being like a deer in the headlights, all i could do is just stand and stare at this extremely unusual craft. my location at the time was less than 5 miles from the local airport and i know for a fact it was not and airplane, swamp gas, the planet venus, a swarm of bees, a flock of geese, nor anything we know of conventional flight. if it is a gov craft, what are they doing with it, and why was it "flying where it was right in front of me?" if it is some sort of mapping craft then why are we not told this and not to be "alarmed" that its only for mapping. it seems to me most are not willing to admit that there IS something going on for fear of being labeled crazy or delusional, that to me is a load of hot air. until i had this sighting there was an edge of non belief but now, i am a firm believer simply because what i have seen is way beyond anything that we know we have that can perform in such an unusual way. for the non believers, your time will come. mark page, dubuque, iowa.

This reminds me of the mass sightings my family tell me about. It happened in Fort Smith, AR in 1965. There is very little in the public eye about it but it was huge then. The sightings went on for most of the evening. The Air Force sent up planes that looked laughable in comparison. The UFO's were said to fly over in formations, singles. One hovered over an area near the air port and others were said to have followed vehicles. The sightings happened up to several towns away in all directions.

On this website I do not try to sell anything, there is no membership required and no fee of anykind. The one on the first page is the most startling UFO photo I have ever see. The ship is about 200 yards or less away at less than roof top level and would probably serve as a freighter. Showing that there is probably at least a semi-permanent alien operational base in that area. Most of my good quality close range photos and videos come from that one area. I started my earlier publication in early 2002 from that area and began my website from that area in April of 2004 from that area. During early 2004 The State Prison in that area was closed and decommissioned and the Federal Government moved in and took over the State Prison area. Photos can no longer be legally taken of the buildings on the federal propertyin that area. That prison area is located between the river and the edge of town with dozens of two and three story homes just across the street from the prison wall. The prison wall and buildings are being removed at a slow pace. A close range (60 - 70 yards distance) docked Alien 'Shuttle Craft' was photographed from that area. An Alien Cruiser (50 - 60 yards wide) was also spoted and photographed in that area. Dozens of smaller saucer shaped ships also showed up in photos taken in that area. Depends what you mean by many. Real studies have been done that infact show quite the opposite amongst the scientist population. Generally as education and intelligence increase, so does atheistic belief.

If it isn't true, I don't know why people like you have a need to make these stories up unless you are some kind of closet, un-noticed SCI-FI writer or something like that. Obviously what you didn't see was swamp gas.

As a ex-pro photographer, it is doubtfull that the normal citizen who saw the Stephenville, TX UFO's would have had access to an extreme low light, high speed film/digital/video camera that could accurately record a night time sighting with details as to be able to positively identify what was seen. These specialized cameras exist but the cost of such equipment is out of the reach of 99% of the residents of that area and I seriously doubt if one could afford such a camera, he/she would normally carry it around in their vehicle.

Regarding what was seen, when I was going to school at Sul Ross U. in Alpine, TX in June, 1971, myself and two female class mates went looking for the still unexplained Marfa Lights on a Friday night when we didn't have anything else to do (there wasn't much to do in that town!). We were able to go up into the area on private ranch land that they are normally seen from the highway hovering over. We had an encounter with two of the lights at a distance of less than 10 ft in front of my vehicle. From that experience, I certainly don't doubt what people in my area saw a few nights ago and why there are no quality photos. I had a 35mm SLR with a 50mm f/1.4 lens with me at the time with high speed B&W film and was too shook up by the experience to think to even try to take photos, which I seriously doubt would have shown anything more than a bright blob of light on a black background with the hood of my vehicle well lit by the light!

I think a lot of the sightings are explainable. For instance there are sightings in and around Newark Airport in NJ. They are mostly near the shore or in the meadowlands area. The thing about this area are that there are several airports, and a few military bases, including "three mile pier" in the bay. The sightings that I find hard to discredit are close encounters. Encounters where someone gets within a few yards of the craft. Especially when these individuals are law enforcement, military or other people in high responsible positions. (I am not saying that sightings from "ordinary" people are automatically false.)

One funny thing I remember is a show where kids made discs out of ordinary materials, paper, aluminum, et al. and they through them in the air and photographed them with ordinary cameras. The photos were no more or less convincing then the ones captured during "real" sightings.

What strikes me odd about all these things, is that people seem to be just as quick to dismiss a sighting as something (planet, swamp gas, etc) as some are to say it's an alien. While it may be a long shot, it is possible that the earth is being visited by people from another time or creatures from another planet. Automatically dismissing all claims as mis-interperted natural occurances without do legit investigation in intellictually dishonest and probably stems (at least a little bit) from fear. While I believe that there is life out there somewhere, I am not sure I believe that they are visiting us, but I do KNOW that, in this vast universe, there is that possibility.

somewhere to get a better feel for perspective. It was long since said what you are seeing are ice crystals from condensation. my brother, my dad and my uncle were witnesses to a large triangular shaped ufo during the summer of 1985. the craft hovered over us for about 4-5 minutes and was extremely large about 200 yards in length and about 50 yards in height probably about 200 yards in width. we live in rio grande city, tx. and the location of the sighting happened about 20 miles north of r.g.c.tx at the my uncles ranch called "el macho" near mccook texas.

My daughter and I know what we saw. Going home down a dirt road in the country one night, we saw huge, very bright lights, appearing low (?) in the sky, hovering above the cemetary at the end of our lane. We stopped our van to get a better look. We knew it was something never there at any other time. No, it was not a weather balloon, stars,plane, helicopter, etc. We drove slowly forward, and I was afraid. I urged her to drive on to the house. As we went up the lane, it remained in place. When we turned into our 1/8 mile drive, We saw the object's lights turn in the same direction we went, and the bright lights were no longer visible. We couldn't see the shape of the object, as it was dark, however, I had seen the shape of the v shaped light configuration. We told my husband, and no one else. (Who would we tell)? All I can say is, I am now a believer. I can see why people are reluctant to discuss what they see. There are too many skeptics ready to explain it away. We know what we saw. We will never be convinced otherwise.

I don't know why the doubt's about UFO's continue to persist. The only thing I know is it is the same thing as ghosts. You have the believer's and the non-believer's. The believer's being the ones that have actually seen a UFO or UFO's and the ones that haven't. I have seen several, although it's been at least 20 years since my last sighting. It is highly improbable that they are seen in large cities just because of the lighting from city lights/homes/etc. The sighting I witnessed were in my hometown in Northern Taos County in New Mexico. These sightings there continue to this day. It would take a camera crew with "staying power" to record such events. You can't just pull over in the middle of UFO country and wait a few minutes or hours and actually expect to see one. The times I saw UFO's, I was totally unprepared to photograph them, it was usually at night and it seems almost useless to photograph a glowing object several miles away.

One night five years ago I was staying in a remote wilderness camp in Northern British Columbia near the small town of Atlin. About 3.30 am I had to go outside to attend to a call of nature. It was a fairly dark but clear moonless night. Immediatly facing me was a hill about 300metres high and behind me was a similar hill forming a very tight valley.As I stood on the deck I observed a large, silent shape moving alongside the closest hill at a very high speed. It had a row of small lights at intervals along its body and made absolutely no sound. It could have been no more than 200 metres from where I was standing and was about 200 metres high. It was past me in a fraction of a second but I was able to follow its progress as it moved up the valley. The whole encounter was over in seconds but made a very profound impression. I should emphasise that this was a very remote location and to fly even a small plane or helicopter along that very tight and dangerous terrain even in daylight would have been suicidal. As a matter of interest I checked with local helicopter company but no one was flying that night and the noise in that very confined space would have been significant. I have talked to some of the locals about my experience and no one seemed suprised.

I saw jets chasing a light orb like object and I must say NO it was not another jt. It appeared to be a ball of light. I saw the light, then saw the jet following behind it. I looked back at the light and it disappeared. The fighter pulled a 180 and went back wherever it came from. I grew up in this area and never saw any military aircraft ever, not before this event nor after. I have seen many of these light objects, mostly way up high possibly in space appearing as moving stars. They are not airplane lights. They never have blinking lights such as aircraft and I have seen them in formation. They are usually only visible to the naked eye while directly overhead or for a short trjectory either way from overhead position in line of travel. Airplane lights, even the high altitude, are visible to and from near treeline level whereas these are not. It's almost like objects that are in spce that are making close fly-by's to the earth. Also NASA Shuttle footage shows light orbs which correspond to that theory. These lights are visible early evening hours every night from any location as far as I know. Pick a dark area for viewing and watch away.

I love stupid people, you make my day... unless I see you on the roads of course. Balls of light? Ball lightning. Yes, satelites fly in groups. And intentionally. There's a lot of traffic up there, plus every satelite in a stable orbit at the same altitude orbits at the same speed. Hence "formations." Check out some propellantless propulsion research, I suggest you search J. L. Naudin. Electrostatic propulsion cannot be explained yet it works, and since governments are interested in his work, it's a good bet that some other gov'ts are already working on it. Coanda flyers are quite interesting, very low power VTOL and hovering, easty transitions between vertical and horizontal movement. And they use known physics. Fast movement of lights that turn 90 degree angles? Did you even click the link on sun dogs? Now think about how that phenomenon works. Clouds move. If you know enough about refraction and consider the near fractal shape of clouds, you can put 2 and 2 together. As for rapidly direction-changing lights at night, the observations are about useless without the good measurements that Oberg calls for, and the same phenomenon that occurs with the sun can occure with the reflected moon light. Are you aware that our electromagnetic signals dissipate to noise at a range of 2 light years? Not even enough to reach the nearest star. Interestingly, the people who propose time travellers are probably more likely to be correct than those who believe in extraterrestrial visitation. And to those of you who point to the "historical record" for alien evidence, let me remind you that some of our ancestors thought that comets were gods, while others correctly identified them as heavenly objects. My younger sister who, doesnt drink, or smoke or take any drugs, saw a large low flying aircraft. It was large enough to cover part of the early morning
sky(im talking like 5 in the am)NO sounds came from it ,even though it was low enough to see many lights on the thing she never heard a noise and was so awed by it by the time she thought to grab a camera, the thing took off without a trace. This is in southern california. Sorry folks. What you saw was probably what my Uncle and I saw in 1996. We were driving South on Interstate 35 toward Waco, and just outside of Hillsboro Texas and intense white shining light appeared in our windsheild... I commented that that was not normal and pull over to the side of the road so we could better view what was coming toward us. Little did I know it was NOT coming toward us but rather at an 70 degree angle to the roadway. It appeared so bright that I initially thought a commercial aircraft was going to attempt a landing on the 35 interstate as the lightshow was that dramatic. It actually appeared that landing lights were on a full brightness in an attempt to land. I commented to my Uncle that Good Lord what I'd give for a camera or binnoculars to view this disaster and he said well I've got them in the back. He's an avid deer hunter and sure enough, they were top grade.
What we both viewed was a missile tumbling end over end totally out of control. As it sunk deeper into our atmoshere is turned to cobalt blue, fire orange and white hot colors. It was fully intact and was obvously a misfired rocket that did not make orbit. My only concern after I realized that it was not headed North toward me was toward the folks that lay under its path to the east. As a commercial pilot, I would estimate that this craft was near 45,000 ft and moving near 2500 mph. I figure that this trajectory would land it in far East Texas or Louisanna. Next day's search of all news records for those areas revealed absolutely NO records of an impact. Curious UFO, Yes, Normal...probably so...many of our Nation Reconnaisence Missles are launched weekly from Vandenburg to our West and surely there will always be a screw-up. That puppy landed somewhere in the states and I bet it made a pretty big bang and a hole. Interesting how our Gov. can cover these things up so well. Just a thought folks.

Fall 2006, Northwestern L.P. Michigan at exactly 7:10 p.m. three nights in a row we witnessed an event of red lighted formation coming from the south over our airspace, appearing to have no sound, followed by another red lighted formation with sound, second formation was chasing first. Once formation went north of us they banked sharply with a big flash of light, one group took off south and another group of red lights shot off east. In the early morning when it's dark but not too far from sun rise, my wife and I noticed two bright objects moving from west to east running parallel to each other but moving in very sharp turning angles and moving at a high rate of speed. After disapearing from our sight they soon came back heading east to west. My guess is the sun was reflecting off these objects in earths orbit. I just dont give credit to our technology to have craft that can move at these speeds and change in sharp directions as these did. I believe these vessels our from another world and coming and going as they please, our own Government is lost as we are as too who, what, where, why and how. I assume they mean no harm because if they did, we would be in big trouble.

For fifty years people have been laughed at for
reporting UFOs or other phenomena that seem to be unexplainable. Reputations have been ruined simply because somebody reported a sighting of perhaps a saucer shaped vehicle floating around in the sky. When a report is made by a creditable observer it seems that person feels the necessity to present what was observed in a manner that makes them sound like they doubt their own credibility. If you don't discredit your own sensibilities in the report then you have nothing to defend yourself with when the ridicule begins. There are always the jealous folks who read about UFOs observed by others but fail to observe far enough down a highway while driving an automobile. They make the dumb jokes that make other like individuals laugh. We also have the plain liars who are looking for some tale to tell to defend against
their own control freak anxiety. I suspect there're several good UFO pictures that would truly open some eyes if the people were to show them. Of course they would be open to instant ridicule, so those folks keep silent. I have to say that I too would just enjoy the picture and keep my mouth shut. I have never seen a UFO. I have no doubt that of all the hundreds of thousands of people who have made reports on the subject some are indeed accurate and probably truly unexplainable. There has to be a percentage of the unexplainable that are actually genuine UFOs, or some type of craft that carries life forms to and from some place of origin not of our own planet. Whether from our universe or another dimension we'll never know until something significant happens to permit
everybody to learn. Don't expect the government to make any UFO revelations because what they know is locked up tight in a bureaucratic vault. I expect it's the usual cronies and nepotism that run a large budget black project with no intent on letting the cat out of the bag. I believe that everybody has by this time lost faith in any and all government information. There is no point in dwelling on that subject. I will end my letter by saying, if you really do see something that you truly believe is from somewhere other than, I'll say earth, then try to get a picture, hopefully video and hold the the camera still. Ufo's do exist and the U.S.GOV. knows all about them. I seen 1 in Ca. and 1 in Wiesbaden W Germany. The one I saw in Ca. was on a sept. evening about 5pm.1994. The sun was still shining and was illuminating half of the moon. I focused my vision and was able to make out the other half of the moon. That's when I noticed a star sitting just below the far left of the moon.I thought to myself now how can that be a star? the sun is still brightly shining and glancing about the sky I didn't see any thing else. I figured it to be sun glare off a high flying military or passenger jet. The problem with this picture is that the object wasn't moving. I focused my vision harder then I did to make out the dark portion of the moon and, to my suprise the object was round and seemed to be at the edge of our atmosphere. It could have been futher however it was closer then the moon. I wanted to see how the object moved when it did move so, I watched it for at least a solid 15 min. I took my eyes off for aprox. 30 sec. when I looked back up the object was gone. Shees what timing///(note: my eye sight was tested by the Army on a computer system and I took it off the wedge at 20/16 they didn't want to recalibrate the system to find my true vision so 20/16 is what was recorded.} Back in 1982 I was a forward observer for field artillary and infantry mortars [13f10]. I was stationed at the Wiesbaden Air Base. As one would expect at a air base you could see a good distance around uson the horizon. One summer afternoon on a weekend I had left my barracks to walk over to the gas station to buy a soda. enrout a bright object in my upper periferial vision cought my attention. Looking up I saw a fire ball that was aprox. 300' high and aprox. .5 miles in diameter. When it passed over my head there was no engine noise just a crackeling sound much like a artillary flying over head only a lot stronger of a crackel. I thought it was a meteorite so, I stoped and said oh my god when that thing hits a lot of people will die. I waited about 3 -5 min. expecting to feel something in the form of a earthquake from the impact. nothing happened I figured being it was moving so fast it punched its way back out of our atmosphere. Note: looking at one end of the horizon turn your head in a arching motion as if you are watching something fly overhead to the other 180deg. horizon as fast as you can thats how fast this obbect was moving.} The gas station was a 3min. walk there and 3 to get back. While I was returning I saw it again in the opposite line of travel and still seemed to be traveling at the same speed no faster no slower. So if this was a meteor and it pulled a sling shot effect thus reversing its course it should have been traveling a lot faster to break back out of our atmosphere. I don't work for nasa however I believe the object had way plenty of speed to have punched its way out the first time i saw it. Any way as I said the gov. knows about the ufo's. The problem is that if the gov. tells the public the truth the people will demand protection from the ufo's. The gov. can't protect us from them as our techno abilities just isn't up to par with the aliens. So, denieing their existance is a lot cheaper and, believe it or not, it be me saving our humman butts. Survivors don't pick fights unless or untill you got the mussel to deal with the problem. Even if we shoot down a few of their ships and gain their propulsion and weapon technolgy. We still don't know where they are coming from and more to the point just how many of them are there. I feel that we are going to somehow have to have a peaceful dialog with them if we are to survive here. They are watching us and will only let us advance so far. They know our world is full of wars and suffering and you can bet they sure don't want us spreading our wars and suffering around the universe. So, when mankind stops going to war and, starts to properly care for our planet, we can expect a formal introduction of our visitors. We just need to prove ourselfs to them and, if can't and our technology grows beyond their tolerance, expect them to squash us like a bug so they can contain us here so as not to pollute the universe.

Steve, St. Helens OR: The date of your experience would have been the 11th or 12th Sept. 1994 in CA. And a sky map of that date rules out Venus being anywhere near the 1/2 moon. The only other explanation is a weather balloon. They can be quite bright if at the right angle to the sun. It disappeared because the angle to the sun changed as it moved away from your vantage point (which would make it appear still). As for the other thing in Germany?..I don't know.

Even if the Navy admitted to be in the area that shouldn't dismiss the event as only military craft. If it was fine, but all the other reports need to be followed up on.

No photograph, no matter how high quality, will settle the UFO debate. The only thing that will settle the UFO debate will be when they officially make contact. The UFO phenomenon has been going on for a very long time (even dating back to official records in ancient Egypt and showing up in ancient art around the world) but these guys are not our friends. If you do not make your mind up before they make contact, you will be putty in their hands as they claim to be our buddies. Are there UFO's. i'm no expert but i have seen unexplained lights. As a matter of fact there is video from the lights at WaterhenLake SK. that exists from April, 2007. The lights were occuring everynight between 10:30 and 11:30 at night. On this particular night my husband and i went down to the lake to see if anything was visible. Sure enough, they appeared. They were silent and appeared tp glide over the lake. They rotated and were a light orange color. These lights were captured on video and was examined by a reporter from CBC. This experience shook me up since i cannot explain what i saw but i don't believe it was military.
What are they, i don't know but i do know that i don't want to be the person that finds out.

It the non believers that are telling the real story. I watch the sky all the time, kind of a family pasttime especially in the summer. I have spent many nights under a telescope. I never have believed, but I saw something odd. Thought it was a star(it was too high to be an aircraft, or so I thought) burning out and flashing, but then it shot across the night sky and my next thought was~a falling star, but then it stopped cold for about 5 minutes flashing. Then shot left and then 90 degrees straight up and away from earth and completely out of sight on a clear star filled sky. Still don't know what I saw and have no speculations, but it was strange.

I think UFOs are real. The reason is i have seen one. Beleive me or not, i saw a UFO when i looked out my window in the morning. I live on a Coast Guard Base on Kodiak Island. The UFO sighting occured at 6:43, according to my clock. The aircraft zipped across the sky and seemed to crash into a mountain. No distress signals were sent to the airport nor was there a crash site when researchers scoped the mountain. Many Coast Guard officials spotted the bizzare object and reported to the airport requesting for any distress calls. When none were found, as when no crash site was found, the object was labeled a UFO.

I have had two experiences with "unidentified flying objects" in San Diego. Both events happened mid-day, with a clear blue sky and no clouds, and both were the same. I observed what I thought was a plane flying across the sky - silver colored, reflecting the sunlight, and both just suddenly dematerialized into nothing. Whether this was ET or some explainable phenomenon I can't say - but it certainly was interesting!!
One of the comedians once remarked that if they want to make contact, why don't they land in Carl Sagan's backyard (this was some time ago, of course) and not in some backwoods or remote area! I would like to think that perhaps they also have a "prime directive" - you can observe, but not interfere. I find the subject fascinating but I wouldn't say definitely that they were ET's. As per the Drake equation, I find it hard to believe that in a universe so vast we are the only "intelligent (and the definition of intelligent leaves much to the imagination) beings" around. There are also the political ramifications - as President Reagan stated, if we were faced with an unknown, extraterrestrial intelligence, how quickly our petty differences would vanish. World leaders would not like something else to interfere with their dominance, thus the suppression of any valid information.
I think we should all keep an open mind. As Shakespeare said - "There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreampt of in your philosophy, Horatio".

The government explanation of the the planes in Texas sounds just like the explanation provided for us in Indiana in April. Hundreds reported seeing strange lights and the thousands heard a loud boom, later determined to be the breaking of the sound barrier. It was all over the news here. We were told that it was a military practice mission. RIGHT? If the military is going to have secret practice missions, would they do it over a medium sized Indiana city? I highly doubt it.

The sad truth of the situation is that while the evidence that we are being visited by ET is overwhelming most people are still in the dark and wish to remain so. Here are some points to support this argument.

1. There are cases where physical evidence has been recovered from UFO sites and analyzed in laboratories for unusual physical properties producing results suggesting extra-terrestrial origin.
2. There is extensive documented radar evidence of UFOs.
3. There is evidence of unusually high background radiation counts at UFO landing sites.
4. UFO's have been spotted by thousands of witnesses flying over Washington D.C. for two weekends in 1952 with both video and press coverage. The objects could not be intercepted by our fighters and were filmed flying in formation over the Capitol building.
5. The government has admitted to deceiving the public about the integrity of project Blue Book and orcastrating a public debunking campaign designed to ridicule people interested in the subject.
6. Many people still think UFO's only are spotted or crash in rural areas and have absolutely NO idea just exactly what is located around areas like Roswell or why a UFO would be there.

In October of 1991 i and many others witnessed a craft so large in the sky the basketball my friend was holding at the time covered maybe 1/16 of the craft.We watched it for several minutes and watched it go from rolling like a car wheel through the sky to a friby and it was huge! I was raised in a Millitary family and i know all aircraft in the millitary this was not made on this planet we dont have the brains or the brawn to make a craft this size. It was at 20,000 feet traveling east and because it gave us a show we could estimate that the craft was 1000 feet across and 4 or 500 feet thick you could see the windows and it's shape was a wheel within a wheel within a wheel. No sound came from the craft and when it left it was like trying to watch a bullet fired from a gun. Oh and if was ours, why did the Air Force Scrabble 4 F 15's to intercept? we watched the jets at full afterburner cross the sky minutes after the craft was out of site. I Managed f-16's in the U.S. Air Force we don'tscrabble jets for fun it cost way to much money. And as for the Air Force flying 10 F-16's in the Stephensville siting that don't happen ever! They lie and wwe belive. They Know and keep us in the dark because humans are not ready for the truth. but it's there! You can find it where truth lies in the Bible, in Sumerian text egyptian pyramids and gliphs of all ancient peoples writings since the dawn of time. Wake up! Read the bible and find out for your self who God is. Ezikiel Chapter 1-30 is proof. There are 700 pluse descriptions of UFO's in the bible as God. UFO: Unidentified Flying Object is correct and is the point.
These sightings are of course caused by several things such as light phenomena (most I believe), experimental aircraft, weather baloons, etc.
One thing I believe is that with the enormous distances between star systems and other galaxies and E=mc2, I find it very unlikely that other intelligent species (I'm not too sure about our own) have visited from these distant systems.

All you see about about UFO in space is illusions for few minutes when a dark object in being flashed by light coming from space. we see the moon but is smaller object pass by and not to collide with earth but subject to sun light like we see the moon we think that it is a UFO. I am a nuke Physicist and this UFO illusions can be inderstood better if you were a nuke physicist. Physicists see UFOs and call it new discovery when they see shadows and sometimes they more comic than UFO spotters

in late response to joe from VA, NASA neither confirms nor denies ET visitation of earth. They considered researching it, but it was decided that it would be a waste of money, as any observation of ET technology would be useless in the actual research and design field. Can't observe a UFO and from observation learn anything, which is NASA's goal.
On the topic of getting photos, the only UFO i've seen close enough to get a picture startled me so much I ran inside and hid for 5 minutes until i was certain it wasn't a bombing mission (what hiding inside would do for safety, i don't know). I feel that if i wasted my time taking pictures of the ufo, i would miss out on observations of my own. a picture would only be "debunked" by skeptics, and most people will only believe it if they see it themselves, in person.

while most persons claim to see and be visited i find that those that have had these experiences are extremely reluctant to talk about them. others are out for glory and the fifteen minutes of fame.
