Ok... now as I step back, who is going to be the one to volunteer to see whether or not helmet-to-helmet contact actually feels like getting conked in the head by a 16-pound bowling??? Scorecard anyone?

Man… those were some cool facts! I never would have even come close to thinking there was that much force involved or that a pass might fade to the right or left. I always wondered how a field goal could hook if it is spinning end over end, but I guess it must wobble a bit as well.

That is actually cool that the prof is doing this much work on football. Though I agree that they are amazing, I would love to see a measured impact of a racquet on a ball during a tennis serve, or the force of impact not on a punch but from a kick from a professional Tae Kwon Do athlete. Those are surely big numbers as well.

Enjoyed this one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't some of the early assumptions in the space program based on the forces sustained by football players?

This is a really great study. Science was always something I liked but to take football, or any sport for that matter, and breaking it down to scientific facts is really instresting. It hopefully make those that put down some player in some games realize just how much they put out in a single game.
