When they looked for this next reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, it is said that he not only knew the horsemen that came looking for him by name but he was correctly able to pick out items that he previously owned among similar items etc. Never heard of those other signs which seemd pretty far fetched. Since it is impossible to regress on the road to enlightenment, it is said that a true Buddha will reject the ultimate enlightenment so that he can come back to help everybody else. In strict teachings you can't tell who is a Buddha and who is not. Anyone can be a buddha including your worst enemy, who is trying to teach you an essential lesson. The people who make you the most upset are your best teachers in life and you should cherrish them dearly! You would not see your faults otherwise.

On a rather funny note, the last person NOT to become a Buddha is essentially screwed because there'd be no one left to feel compassion for. Well, at least I found that hysterical! Fortunately, the Buddhas can come back to get the last "slacker" on his way.
