All the more reason to legalize marijuana. As history has shown it is not going away and the legalization would greatly reduce crime, reduce the prison population, free up the courts to handle other 'crimes' and should fall into the the same restrictions as alcohol. The HUGE amounts of money spent to stop the use and sale could could be spent on 'real crime'. The legal sale of pot would GREATLY reduce the profits of crime lords and gangs and stop a great amount of crime associated with its sale. LDD

Even a large number of police feel it should be legalized. The "war" on drugs is a war you cannot win. It's like fighting the legendary hydra, cut off one head and 2 more appear. A lot of people smoke marijuana because it is illegal, the same way many drank during prohibition. Stop trying to fight this and try feeding the people and getting them affordable medical care. You might even try educating them better, wow there's a thought.

After reading the arguements about Cannabis references in the Bible, it seems unlikely that the references are about "MJ". That being said, Just becuase something is illegal does not make it immoral. You can qoute as many verses as you like, but until it clearly says "Thou shalt not smoke pot", there is really no valid religious argument.

The "valid religious argument" stems from the statement in the Bible that God put your leaders over you for a reason; it is God's reason, not for us to know until He sees fit to reveal it to us. Until then, marijuana is illegal, no matter how stupid (or not) its use is.

Why is marijuana illegal, when alcohol is not? After all, Prohibition (the 19th Amendment) didn't work. The answer is that it is an inescapable fact that marijuana intoxication tends to occur faster than alcohol intoxication (You say it doesn't? Then why do so many people risk jail to possess it?). I would suggest that pot use (per se) be de-criminalized; one would only be subject to criminal penalties if one operated a vehicle under the influence (as with alcoholic beverages).

I knew Shamanism was the way to go! I have always wondered what marijuana from the past would be like...I am sorely disappointed that it loses it's potency.

However, as for the perpetual argument of the comparability of marijuana to alcohol... I'm one up for the pot. Deaths per year (caused by directly) pot? 0. Money spent to prevent the use of pot? Billions over this time period. Watch "Super High Me" with Doug Benson. It's like the McDonalds documentary but way more beneficial - truly "higher" learning ;D

I smoked the stuff way back in the sixtys listening to Merle Haggard singing "We dont smoke Marijuana in Muskogee" only to find out in the eighties that Merle HAD been smoking it all along along with a lot of others.When it got where most people didnt care it lost its thrill and I havent touched it in 15 years.It seems to me that the people who dont want it legalized are probably just trying to keep the prices high because they have a fiancial interest.When it is legalized(and it will be)the bottom is going to fall out of that market.It will lose its allure,use will nosedive and everyone will see how stupid we all were for making such a big deal over a little plant.

It is unfortunate to realize just how ignorant people are about Pot. I have Fibromyalgia and sometimes that is the only relief from indefinite pain. The disease ruined my life...NOT POT! I would rather people smoke pot then drink. Our highways would be safer. I have yet to meet a pot smoker that has black outs or drives dangerously. We need to ban alcohol and legalize marijuana! Alcohol is manufactured and marijuana is, by my definition, Natures (Gods) medicine. To the repetitive complainer...Tell me, what is your choice of drug? Alcohol? I know first hand the damage booze can have on a person...I tried to kill my pain first by use of alcohol; the damage was irreversable. Pot, no conflict.

When, and if, marijuana is legalized, I hope that a provision is included to prevent the big businesses, that would spring up, from spiking or altering the natural plant matter in the ways the Tobacco Industry has altered their products to make them more addictive. We don't need another instance of that fiasco. Marijuana, as it currently is used, does not have an addictive component, but you can bet if the tobacco industry starts to sell it, they will figure out a way to make its' users dependent.

Just a thought on ancient drug use; Some theologians have opined that the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (not an apple tree, that is a misnomer) could have had psychotropic properties. And that further, that it permanently altered the DNA. Of course knowledge of good and evil is no longer forbidden.

Sorcery was forbidden in the Mosaic law, but the New Testament is mostly silent about such things. The hebrew "sorcerer" is the same as the greek "pharmakeus" or pharmacist. I suppose the use of drug should be measured by its intent.. to help or to harm.

My question is, what strain was the ancient ganja? If it was Cannabis Indica (which it probably was), then it is a safe bet to say it was used medicinally. If it was Cannabis Sativa, it was probably used more as a religious psychoactive (Indica = physical, Sativa = mental). It would be interesting to know, as it may shed light on the sociological factors behind Cannabis use.
