Another great article Alan! I really enjoy watching shows on the LHC that I've seen on The Science Channel. It's about time physicists get their due as stars of our society. I can't wait for the LHC to come back online this coming spring or summer. We need to increase our funding of real science so our country stops falling by the wayside. I believe that Obama will bring real science back to the White House and hopefully our current recession won't hurt scientific funding.

I wish the film would highlight the USA theorists who discovered this boson (Guralnik, Brown Univ and Hagen, Univ of Rochester). PW Higgs was not really the first to the party.

i did a documentary also on the discovery of the Higgs with a different perspective, would love you Alan to consider that other 'human' point of view. It is called 'quantum roulette', you can find it here and deals with other possible consequences of 'human ignorance' of the laws of the Universe.

As a science enthusiast I admire the achievements of high-energy physics. But I'm convinced that the incremental gains using exponentially more money is now past the opportunity cost of spending the money on other areas of science. What achievements could be made in renewable energy and medicine alone with the trillions of dollars spent can only be imagined.

Really a nice presentation it is! In fact what I like to say that the participation of physicist in the event is grate, but some of the parts of world are absent. I believe an enormous number of young enthusiastic scientist are there waiting for the results of LHC in my region. An attention may necessary to warm-up them with their full charge. World needs a clear-cut highest budget for scientific research for mankind and also need a special emphasis for third-world counties to merge in to global steam! It is an inspiration for the scientists to find the true of the creation and explanations of ‘whys’. I’m waiting for the success of the experiment.

Medicine historically gets a lot of spillover. And if the budget on new energy is five bucks now then redirecting the money could make a whole lot of difference. The more above five bucks being spent now the less substantial the difference.
