Single-engine jets, flown by single pilots who may have limited experience but who may be flying in heavy weather in heavily congested airspace such as New York or L.A. or in moutainous conditions? In all this talk about convenience and comptetive pricing I've heard nothing addressing safety. The jury is still out on this evolving segment of air transportation. Before hopping aboard, I'll just sit back and watch for awhile.

The previous comment is unnecesarily alarmist and ignorant. In order to obtain a license to pilot a jet engine plane, a candidate requires rigorous training, certain amount of experience (measured in hours and type of prior flights) and must ultimately take several written and practical tests. The last such test is an actual flight test with an FAA inspector who will ensure that the candidate is worthy of the type of license and rating he (or she) is seeking. Any pilot holding an ATP license has shown an abundance of experience and skills. Stop spreading false FUD and inform yourself, or simply stay seated and keep watching from the sidelines.

Mr. Howie, according to an analysis of accident statistics by Flying magazine, flying in small jets is substantially safer than small planes with reciprocating engines. This has to do with simpler engine operation , flying over the weather rather than through it, more excess power, and higher training standards. Your wait ought to be over. The first generation small jet, the Learjet, flew in the early Sixties.

As the airlines pull out of many smaller airports and leave people to drive hundreds of miles to an airport, the Hub-and-Spoke loses it's spokes.

Bring'em on. In the end we will have more service to smaller towns if 6 people make a full load.

How fuel efficient are these aircraft? Was there a cost per flight for this kind of thing? I guess that it could be safe to asssume that all the pilots are licenced. Where do these plains land? I doubt that they could land on a street.
